- VCU started the contest on a 6-0 run, spearheaded by back-to-back 3-pointers from Robinson and Madison Hattix-Covington
- The Rams led 21-17 at the end of the first quarter, having shot 63.6 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from three
- Both teams struggled offensively in the second quarter and shot under 37 percent from the floor but VCU led 33-29 at halftime
- VCU pushed its lead to 36-29 on a Bloom free throw but the Pirates answered with a 11-3Â run to take a 40-39 lead with 3:05 left in the third quarter
- Chloe Bloom then made a contested layup with 2:51 left in the third quarter that sparked a 7-2 scoring run for the Rams and gave them a 46-42 lead heading into the fourth quarter
