GOLOB AND JERABEK NAMED SECOND TEAM ALL-EAST REGION

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Women's Soccer senior defender Lana Golob and redshirt senior forward Samantha Jerabek were both named to the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's East Region Second Team, the United Soccer Coaches announced Monday.

Golob, the 2021 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year, earned the second All-Region nod of her career after being named to the Second Team in 2018 as a freshman. The center back from Recica ob Paki, Slovenia, has been both a defensive stalwart and a threat in the attack this year for the Rams. An excellent 1-v-1 defender, Golob captains the VCU back line, which recorded six clean sheets in 2021 and boasted the best goals-against average (0.811) in the A-10.

Golob only missed two matches, both while playing for the Slovenian national team in World Cup Qualifying. She scored three goals this year: the lone goal in a 1-0 win at St. Bonaventure cleaning up a corner kick rebound, the overtime game-winner at UMass, and a converted penalty kick against Dayton.

Jerabek earned the third All-Region distinction of her career after being honored on the Second Team as a redshirt junior 2020-21 and the Third Team as a sophomore in 2018. A Senior CLASS Award Candidate, she was also named to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team for the fourth straight season. Jerabek was the spearhead of VCU's attack, leading the Rams with six goals, three game-winning goals, and 17 points. She ranked second on the Rams with five assists, and in the top five in the conference in each of those four categories. Jerabek is the premier shot creator in the A-10, as she led the conference and ranked in the top 20 nationally with 4.19 shots per game.

The Chesterfield, Va., native has written her name in the VCU record book, playing the most career games of any Ram in history (87). She is also tied for second all-time with 8 career game-winning goals, and ranks third all-time for career goals (30) and points (78), and tied for fifth for assists (18).

VCU put together a successful 2021 campaign, capturing the program's first Atlantic 10 regular season championship since joining the league in 2012, and tying a school record with nine straight wins on the way to a 13-4-0 final record.
