WOMEN'S TENNIS SIGNS LAURA GARCIA ASTUDILLO

Richmond, Va. - VCU Women's Tennis Head Coach Vivian Segnini has announced the signing of Laura Garcia Astudillo to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday.

Astudillo signs from Barcelona, Spain where she has been ranked as high as No. 57 in the Spanish Adult Rankings. She will arrive on campus for the spring 2022 season.

"I'm very excited to have Laura join our team in the spring. She is a hard worker and a great competitor who is eager to continue to develop. Getting to know her during the recruiting process, I'm sure she will fit our culture because of her ambition to get better and to contribute to the team. I can't wait to have Laura here in January and help her continue her development as a person and student-athlete," Segnini said.

Astudillo joins the Rams after an impressive record of results during her junior career. She is a two-time singles champion of the Catalonia Junior Tournament winning in both 2020 and 2021. Astudillo also finished as champion of the Mutua Madrid Open qualification tournament in 2018. She is also a three-time doubles winner at the Catalonia Tournament finishing victorious in 2015, 2017 and 2018.

"I consider VCU one of the top universities in the United States after evaluating other options. The balance between the tennis and academic program is ideal to fulfill my goals and objectives. I'm very excited to become part of the Rams' family," Astudillo said.
