THE SHORT STORY: VCU's defense pitched its third consecutive shutout and Maite Sturm scored the game-winner against Providence.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Sturm scored her third goal of the season and is tied with Janne Wetzel for a team-high 13 points

  • VCU didn't allow a shot on goal from the Friars in the third quarter to preserve its 1-0 lead heading into the final 15 minutes
  • Providence's lone shot on goal in the second half came with an empty net and 28 seconds left but Elliott was able to make the save
