JERABEK'S GOAL GUIDES VCU TO EIGHTH STRAIGHT WIN

Score: VCU 1, La Salle 0
Location: Philadelphia, Pa. (McCarthy Stadium)
Records: VCU 12-2-0 (8-0-0 Atlantic 10), La Salle 5-8-2 (3-4-1 A-10)

The short story: Redshirt senior forward Samantha Jerabek blasted home a first-half goal, and VCU recorded its second consecutive clean sheet to defeat the Explorers.

QUICK FACTS
  • The Rams have won eight matches in a row, the longest win streak for the program since joining the Atlantic 10.
  • Jerabek's goal was her fifth of the season and 29th of her career.
  • The Chesterfield, Va., native leads VCU in both goals (5) and points (15) this season, and is tied for the team lead in assists (5) with Lyndsey Gutzmer.
  • Jerabek is the fifth Ram to record multiple game-winning goals this season, joining Gutzmer, Emma Kershner, Aileen Guthrie, and Lana Golob.
  • Redshirt senior goalkeeper Grace Young recorded three saves for her sixth shutout of the season, the 12th of her career.
  • The back line of Golob, Natalia Santangelo, Amber DiOrio, and Emily Charen contributed heavily to the clean sheet, limiting the Explorers to just three shots on goal across 90 minutes.
  • VCU remains at the top of the Atlantic 10 standings with 24 points, two wins ahead of Dayton and Saint Louis in second place.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jerabek forced a save in the 28th minute, turning on a ball at the top of the box and sending a shot to the bottom left corner.
  • Moments later, Guthrie played a diagonal ball from her own half over the La Salle back line for Jerabek to run on to. Jerabek then cut inside an Explorer defender and rocketed a shot from the corner of the box inside the far right post.
  • Jerabek, who recorded seven of VCU's 12 shots in the match, opened the second half with a dangerous effort, slashing a shot across goal that forced a save.
  • Graduate forward Bri Kropinack had her shot in the 55th minute saved.
  • As the Explorers pushed for an equalizer, VCU held them without a shot for the final 16 minutes of the match.
