THE SHORT STORY:Â In a game with seven ties and seven lead changes, VCU outscored George Mason 11-3 in the overtime period to pull away for the 64-56 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- George Mason's Rachel Balzer hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter to give the Patriots a 16-12 lead with 2:51 left in the quarter
- After trading buckets, the Rams went on a 10-0 run that lasted nearly six minutes and was capped off with back-to-back layups from Chloe Bloom. The run put VCU in front 24-18 with 4:52 left before halftime
- The Patriots outscored VCU 8-4 to end the half and cut the Rams' lead to 28-26 at halftime
- The Rams built their lead to 34-26 early in the third quarter but the Patriots went on a 9-2 run to get back within 36-35 with 1:43 left in the quarter. A Reed layup gave VCU a 38-35 lead heading into the fourth
- VCU slowly pulled away and led 51-45 after a Madison Hattix-Covington jumper but Mason went on an 8-2 run to close the game and send it to overtime tied 53-53
- After George Mason went up 56-54 with 4:11 left in overtime, the Rams closed the game on a 10-2 run bolstered by shooting 6-of-8 at the free throw line
