The Short Story: VCU Women's Tennis earned a 5-2 season-opening victory over Elon Saturday at the Piedmont Indoors in Greensboro, N.C.

OPENING SERVE

• Freshman Alessia Ciuca and sophomore Gabriela Davidescu notched the first doubles-match win of the season for the Rams as they downed opponents Kiana Rizzolo and Sibel Tanik, 6-1 in the No. 1 position. The victory marks the first of Ciuca's collegiate career.
• Graduate Noumea Witmus and Senior Paola Diaz-Delgado followed closely behind. the pair clinched the doubles point in the No. 2 position with a 6-2 victory over Olivia Archer and Lizette Reding.
• Davidescu also earned the first-singles win of the season for the Rams, the sophomore defeated Archer 7-5, 6-4 in the No. 3 position.
• After Witmus bested her opponent in the No. 5 position 7-6, 6-3, Diaz-Delgado clinched the match victory for the Rams prevailing in a three-set battle 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot.
• Junior Shivani Manjanna topped off the day with a come from behind 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 win in the No. 6 position.
• Head coach Vivian Segnini earned her first victory as Rams head coach.
