THE SHORT STORY
In a Sunday battle, the Rams fell 2-1 to Jacksonville in heartbreaking fashion after giving up the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
LEADING OFF
- Paul Witt lead the Rams defensively, going 2-for-3 with a walk.
- Brandon Henson launched VCU's only extra-base hit and scored the only earned run of the game with a solo shot over the right field fence.
- Hunter Vay also notched a hit on the afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jacksonville took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third when it scored an unearned run.
- The Rams were able to put many on base, but were ultimately held off the board through eight innings.
- Jaden Griffin took over on the mound in the top of the fifth and threw two scoreless innings, keeping VCU within a run.
- Still within striking distance, the Rams tied up the game in the top of the ninth with one swing of the bat. Brandon Henson rocketed a one-out solo home run over the right field fence to tie the ball game.
- The Rams needed three outs in the bottom of the ninth to keep the game going, but an unearned run scored on a two-out, walk-off single to defeated the Rams 2-1.
- Evan Chenier threw the final 2.2 innings of the game and gave up just one unearned run and struck out two.
