THE RAMS FALL TO ODU AFTER LATE MONARCHS RALLY

THE SHORT STORY

A late rally by Old Dominion was enough for the Monarchs to defeat VCU 6-3 at The Diamond Wednesday afternoon.

LEADING OFF

  • Tyler Locklear lead the Rams offensively with two hits on the day.
  • Liam Hibbits and Josh Simon both added a hit and RBI.
  • Michael Dailey threw four scoreless innings, fanning four and allowing just two hits.
  • Six Rams recorded a hit, but ODU ultimately out-hit the Rams 9-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After three scoreless innings, The Rams cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the third. Paul Witt worked a leadoff walk to get things started which was followed up by a Tyler Locklear double and a Liam Hibbits RBI Single. Another Double by Simon and single by Hogan Brown gave VCU a 3-0 lead after three complete.
  • With momentum in its favor, ODU took charge in the top of the seventh  after a two-run homer cut VCU's lead 3-2. The Monarchs eventually tied the game 3-3 later in the inning, before taking the lead 4-3 in the top of the eighth.
  • The Monarchs tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth to take a 6-3 lead.
  • Devin Dunn and Edwin Serrano threw two innings each out of the bullpen. Evan Chenier finished out the game on the bump, throwing the final inning.

NEXT UP

VCU will be back at The Diamond this weekend for three games. The Rams will face WVU Friday, Georgetown Saturday and Wagner Sunday. First pitch on Friday is slated for 3:00 p.m.
