RAMS DROP ROAD CONTEST AT ECU, 58-55

The Short Story: VCU led ECU 53-49 with 3:46 remaining but the Pirates were able to use a 9-2 run to close the game, taking the lead for good with 2:19 remaining. VCU had a chance to tie the game trailing 58-55 but Taya Robinson's 3-point effort at the buzzer just missed.

 
QUICK FACTS
  • Robison tied for the team lead with 13 points, six rebounds and six assists
  • Tera Reed also scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting and grabbed five rebounds
  • Sarah Te-Biasu and Sydnei Archie each added nine points
  • ECU outrebounded the Rams 35-32, including a 15-7 advantage on the offensive glass that led to a 12-3 margin in second chance points for the Pirates

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • VCU started the game on an 8-2 run that saw four different Rams score and was capped off by a  Robinson layup with 5:56 left in the first quarter
  • ECU responded with a 12-1 run that gave the Pirates a 14-11 lead at the end of the quarter
  • The Rams were able to chip away at the Pirates' lead, going on a 10-0 run midway through the second quarter to take a 26-23 advantage after a Janika Griffith-Wallace 3-pointer with 2:23 left before halftime
  • The Pirates answered and closed the half on a 9-0 run to lead the Rams 30-26 at the half
  • The Black and Gold put together a big third quarter, outscoring the Pirates 22-12 while shooting 72.7 percent from the floor and limiting ECU to shoot just 33.3 percent
  • VCU's hot shooting allowed the Rams to take 48-42 heading into the fourth quarter
  • In the fourth quarter, VCU held a 53-52 lead as late as 2:20 remaining in the game before ECU retook the lead as part of their 9-2 run to get the win
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Rams travel to Nashville, Tenn. to conclude non-conference play against Vanderbilt on Dec. 17. The game is set for a 3 p.m. EST tipoff.
