The Short Story: In a battle that featured 12 lead changes and eight ties, Taya Robinson made two free throws to cut VCU's deficit to just 81-78 with 2:40 remaining. Vanderbilt answered with a 7-1 run that included 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions that allowed the Commodores to pull away.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first quarter was a back-and-forth struggle with the lead changing hands six times as Vanderbilt clung to a 20-16 advantage heading into the second quarter
  • The Commodores opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run to push their lead to 27-16 but the Rams answered with a 17-2 run of their own, jumpstarted by a Taya Robinson 3-pointer that gave VCU a 33-29 lead with 4:05 left before halftime
  • Taya Robinson and Tera Reed, VCU's leading scorers coming into the game, combined for 31 points in the first half, shooting a combined 12-of-14 overall. The duo were responsible for 13 of the 17 points during the 17-2 run. The Rams led Vanderbilt 40-38 at halftime
  • With VCU leading 50-46 with 6:57 left in the third quarter, the Commodores outscored the Rams 20-10 heading into the fourth quarter to retake the lead at 66-60
  • After Vanderbilt pushed their lead to 69-60 to begin the fourth quarter, VCU went on an 11-2 run to tie the game at 71-71 with Archie scoring six points during the stretch
  • That would be as close as the Rams would get for the remainder of the contest as Vanderbilt slowly pulled away for the victory
