The Short Story: VCU raced out to a 25-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back as the Rams defeated crosstown rival Richmond in their Atlantic 10 opener. It marked the fifth straight win for VCU in the series.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • VCU started the game shooting an efficient 45.5 percent during the first quarter including going 4-of-6 from 3-point range to jump out to a 25-4 lead
  • The Rams held Richmond to shoot just 8.3 percent in the quarter, going 1-of-12 from the floor and committing seven turnovers
  • Taya Robinson scored 10 of her 15 points during the first quarter for VCU
  • The Spiders were able to outscore the Rams 17-10 in the second quarter to marginally cut VCU's lead to 35-21 at halftime
  • The Black and Gold opened the second half on a 13-2 run that was sparked by a Robinson 3-pointer and gave the Rams a 48-23 lead with 5:00 left in the third quarter.
  • VCU led by as many as much as 53-27 in the third, its largest lead of the game
  • The Spiders got no closer than an 18-point deficit, at 64-48 with 4:06 remaining, for the remainder of the game
