The short story: VCU is headed back to the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship Match. Seniors Vicky Giommarini and Jasmin Sneed combined for 22 kills and 11 blocks to propel the top-seeded Rams to an A-10 semifinal win over La Salle. VCU will meet either Dayton or Saint Louis the title bout at 2 p.m. Sunday in Kingston.
OPENING VOLLEY
- Giommarini provided a match-high 12 kills and hit a robust .632 in the match. She did not commit a hitting error in 19 attempts. She added three blocks and four digs
- Sneed was similarly dominant. The 6-foot middle blocker spiked 10 kills on 14 swings and hit .643. She recorded a match-high eight blocks for the Black and Gold
- Junior outside hitter Paula Neciporuka added six kills and five digs for VCU, while senior opposite Gina Tuzzolo contributed five kills and five blocks
- Senior libero Madalon Simpson shored up the back row with 10 digs for the Rams
- Samantha Graver led the fourth-seeded Explorers with 12 kills
THE DIFFERENCE
- VCU, the national leader in blocks per set, outblocked La Salle 11-1
- VCU hit .383 in the match and committed just nine hitting errors on the night
- La Salle committed 11 service errors without recording an ace
