The short story: VCU had its win streak halted at nine matches with a 5-2 loss against East Tennessee State on Saturday.

OPENING SERVE

  • Freshman Paola Exposito Diaz Delgado and sophomore Noumea Witmus led 5-3 at No. 2 doubles, but the match went unfinished with the Bucs clinched the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.
  • Sophomore Kanako Yano won her third consecutive match, defeating Melissa Esguerra 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
  • Witmus battled to a three-set victory at No. 4 singles to cap the day, defeating Alejandra Morales 7-5, 3-6, 7-5.
  • ETSU notched wins at the top three singles positions to clinch the match.
