The short story: The Rams fell to Rice at home on Sunday afternoon at the Thalhimer Tennis Center. Due to numbers, VCU was forced to default a match in both singles and doubles play which gave the Owls a 2-0 advantage. Redshirt Freshman Isabella Capato Camargo made her season debut for the Rams on the fifth court.
FIRST SERVE
- Senior Darya Berezhnaya and Magda Aubets battled Lindsey Hodge and Wendy Zhang on the first court in doubles play, but fell 6-2. A VCU default allowed Rice to secure the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead.
- The second VCU default put Rice ahead 2-0.
- The Owls scored two consecutive points to put the match out of reach for the Rams.
- Aubets competed on the first court for the first time this season. She faced Lindsey Hodge, ranked 98th by the ITA, but was unable to finish the match.
- Berezhnaya played on the second court for the first time this season where she battled Katherine Ip, ranked 101st by the ITA.
