RAMS DEFEAT ELON WITH COMMANDING 6-1 WIN

The short story: The Rams collected their ninth win of the season by defeating Elon 6-1 at the Thalhimer Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. VCU was perfect in doubles play and jumped to an early 1-0 lead. The Rams continued their success in singles play where five players were able to secure a point on the singles court.

FIRST SERVE

  • Sophomores Janina Braun and Anna Rasmussen defeated Maria Paraja and Alex Koniaev, 6-2. The pair holds a commanding 13-5 overall doubles record this season.  
  • Senior Darya Berezhnaya and Noumea Witmus secured the doubles point. The duo is now 5-2 overall on the year.
  • Magda Aubets and Gabriela Araujo collected a doubles win as well. They downed Olivia Lucas and Erica Braschi, 6-3.
  • Ahead 1-0, Braun won in consecutive sets to put the Rams ahead by two points. She leads the team with 16 wins, and is 16-4 overall.
  • Rasmussen then put the Rams ahead 3-0. She defeated Suzanne Zenoni, 6-4, 6-1 in consecutive sets and is now 13-6 overall.
  • Berezhnaya's win on the fourth court put VCU out of reach with a 4-1 lead. She is second on the team with 15 wins, and is 15-5 overall.
  • Araujo won in consecutive sets as well. She is now 9-9 overall during her freshman campaign thus far.
  • Freshman Noumea Witmus secured the final point for The Black and Gold. She downed Alex Koniaev in three sets to earn her fourth win of the year.
