The short story: Trailing 0-1, the Rams dominated in singles play to defeat East Carolina 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Thalhimer Tennis Center. Senior Darya Berezhnaya and sophomores Janina Braun and Magda Aubets won their matches in consecutive sets.
FIRST SERVE
- Aubets tied the match at 1 a piece by defeating Nastja Tettich, 7-5, 6-0. She is now 13-6 in singles play.
- Braun then put the Rams ahead 2-1. She holds a 15-4 overall record, and has won four out of her five singles matches on the first court thus far.
- Berezhnaya added to the lead by downing Annija Veinsteina, 6-4, 6-4. She is 14-5 on the year in singles play.
- Sophomore Anna Rasmussen won her match to put VCU out of reach at 4-2. After dropping the first set, she bounced back to defeat Lisa Hofbauer, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. She now holds a 12-6 overall singles record this season.
- Freshman Noumea Witmus earned the last point for the Rams. She overcame a first set loss to win, 3-6, 6-4, 10-5.
- Braun and Rasmussen picked up a win in doubles play as well. The duo holds a team-high 12 wins on the doubles court.
