The short story: VCU will play for a fifth consecutive conference title Sunday. The top-seeded Rams advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championship Match via a 4-1 victory over fourth-seeded Saint Louis Saturday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. VCU advances to meet the winner of Saturday's other semifinal between Davidson and George Washington.
FIRST SERVE
- For the second straight day, the trio of freshmen Anna Rasmussen, Magda Aubets and Janina Braun spurred the Rams to victory lane.
- Rasmussen topped Eleonore Tchakarova 6-3, 7-5 on the No. 2 court. She has won six consecutive singles matches and is now a team-best 17-8 this season.
- Aubets edged Verginie Tchakarova at No. 3 in one of the best matches of the day. In the end, the Lleida, Spain native earned a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win.
- Braun also won for the second straight day, coasting past Madison Tru Cook, 6-1, 6-4 on the No. 4 court. She is 15-4 in singles play this spring.
- VCU has won a season-best six straight matches.
- The Rams have won all three A-10 Championships since joining the league prior to the 2012-13 season. VCU also won the CAA title in its final year in that league in 2012.
