The short story: Vitor Lima was a bright spot for VCU, as he battled a top-100 player to a virtual draw, but the Rams were overpowered by Memphis Saturday in a match at Middle Tennessee State.
FIRST SERVE
- Lima, a freshman from Sao Paulo, Brazil, traded sets with 76th-ranked Ryan Peniston on the No. 2 court. Lima dropped the first set 6-1, but rallied for a 6-3 victory in the second frame. Peniston and Lima were tied 1-1 in the decisive third set when the match was called.
- The Tigers also featured 105th-ranked Andrew Watson on the No. 1 court. He defeated VCU's Michal Voscek 6-1, 6-4.
- VCU freshman Arvid Noren was on the verge of a win on the No. 5 court. He led Felix Rauch 6-1, 2-6, 5-1, but couldn't complete the victory before Memphis clinched the match .
