The short story: VCU returned from a two-week break and tamed Memphis behind a trio of freshmen.
FIRST SERVE
- Freshmen Magda Aubets, Janina Braun and Yana Morar were all victorious Friday and gave the Rams the push they needed to pick up their fifth win of the season.
- Braun improved to 8-4 this spring when she fought back a challenge by Marta Morga. Braun stormed to an early lead with 6-0 win in the opening set, only to watch Morga answer with a 6-1 win the second frame. The third set proved much closer than the previous two, but Braun, playing on the No. 3 court for the first time this season, edged Morga 7-5.
- Morar was also triumphant in three sets. The freshman from Chernivtsi, Ukraine edged Gabrielle Paul 7-5, 1-6, 6-0.
