Location: Richmond, Va. (Thalhimer Tennis Center)
Records: VCU 1-4, Penn State 2-3
The short story: VCU freshmen Anna Rasmussen and Janina Braun teamed together for a doubles victory and each captured singles wins, but it wasn't enough for the Rams to hold off Penn State Sunday at Thalhimer Tennis Center.
OPENING SERVE
- VCU led 1-0 and 2-1 in the match before consecutive wins by Penn State on the No. 2, 3 and 1 singles courts pushed the Nittany Lions to the win.
- Rasmussen and Braun coasted past Penn State's Jacqueline Zuhse and Katherine Whiteaway 6-1 to open doubles play. The Rams clinched the doubles point later when Olga Barshcheuskaya and Darya Berezhnaya finished off Devan McClusky and Katia Blik 6-4.
- Braun had little trouble with Kelly Mengel in a 6-1, 6-1 rout. The Berlin, Germany native has won her last three singles matches.
