The short story: Sophomore Julia Adler blasted 11 kills to help VCU mount a stout defense of its home court, but streaking Dayton held off the Rams Friday night at E.J. Wade Arena.

• VCU rallied from a 2-0 deficit to push the Flyers late into the fourth set before Dayton secured the win. Dayton came into Friday's match winners of seven in a row. The Flyers are currently listed 29^th in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll.
• Adler hit .429 in the match to bolster the VCU attack. Junior Alica Kandler added 11 kills and 10 digs.
• Junior libero Rebekah Strange led three Rams with double-figure digs with 17.
• VCU freshman setters Tyler Sroufe and Dajah Ard combined for 40 assists. Ard also kicked in 10 digs and an ace.
• The Flyers, the defending A-10 Champions, were led by Kendyll Brown, who hit .526 with 12 kills and six blocks.

• The Flyers weathered a fierce comeback attempt by VCU in the third and fourth sets. The Rams threatened to force a fifth-set tiebreaker when they pulled within 21-20 in the fourth set. But Brown sandwiched a pair of kills around a VCU score, then watched as teammates Amber Erhahon and Jessica Sloan finished the job with kills.
• VCU initially struck back in the third. The Rams held the Flyers to a -.128 hitting percentage in that frame. Although Dayton erased a five-point deficit to close within 21-20, freshman Jasmin Sneed responded for the Rams with back-to-back blocks on the way to a 25-22 win.
• Dayton outhit the Rams .197-.139 in the match and outblocked VCU 13.5-9.0.
