Rams drop road decision to James Madison, 7-2

Box Score

The Basics

  • Score: JMU 7, VCU 2
  • Records: VCU (1-4), JMU (4-1)
  • Location: JMU Field Hockey Complex – Harrisonburg, Va.
  • The Short Story: Junior Sydney Weise scored her first collegiate goal and freshman Emily McNamara tallied her team-leading fourth, but it wasn't enough as the VCU field hockey team dropped a 6-2 decision to a red-hot JMU squad.
How It Happened
  • JMU jumped out of the gates, getting on the board in the game's fourth minute to take a 1-0 lead.
  • The Dukes would continue the pressure, ripping off 15 first half shots, but VCU's defense held strong with senior Kendall Clifton making seven saves in the first half as JMU went into halftime holding a 2-0 lead.
  • Less than five minutes into the second half, McNamara blasted a shot into the back of the cage off a corner from Taleah Scott and Natalie Bohmke to get VCU within one at 2-1.
  • However, JMU answered with three straight goals over a six minute span to take a 5-1 lead.
  • Weise would take a pass from senior Kendall Farino and find the back of the cage for the first time in her college career, but it wasn't enough as JMU went on to take the 7-2 victory.
Up Next
