  • Score: Georgetown 1, VCU 0 – Final (OT)
  • Records: VCU (1-3), Georgetown (3-2)
  • Location: GU Multi-Sport Field – Washington, D.C.
  • The Short Story: The VCU field hockey team earned 14 corners and fired off 13 shots, but it wasn't enough as the Rams dropped an overtime heartbreaker, 1-0, at Georgetown on Friday afternoon.
How It Happened
  • VCU came out aggressive early, earning three corners in the first 10 minutes  and pressuring the Hoyas defense, but ultimately, the Georgetown keeper made three saves to keep the game scoreless.
  • Freshman Emily McNamara got off four shots in the first stanza, but each time was turned away as the game remained 0-0 at the half.
  • McNamara and the Rams would continue to pressure the GU defense early in the second half, but each time was turned away.
  • Georgetown would have their chances as well, but senior Kendall Clifton (five saves) and the VCU defense stifled any attack.
  • Despite a combined 18 corners and 16 shots, neither team was able to find the back of the cage in regulation.
  • With less than two minutes left in the first overtime, Georgetown was granted a penalty stroke, which they converted for the 1-0 victory.

Quotable

  • "I think today our team really stuck to our game plan from the first to final whistle. We continue to see improvement all over the park but at the end of the day we struggled to find the back of the net when it really mattered most." - Head Coach Laura Baker
