The Short Story: VCU dropped a Sunday decision to No.21 Coastal Carolina, 2-0.

How It Happened

  • After trading possession for the first 25 minutes, Coastal Carolina finally broke through in the 29th minute on a goal from Tobenna Uzo.
  • In the 41st minute Cody Sweatte's shot from Jack Bates was on line, but the CCU keeper was there to stifle the attempt at an equalizer.
  • In the 55th minute Uzo's header found the back of the net to extend the Chanticleers' lead to 2-0.
  • RJ Roberts dribbled through defenders looking to get VCU on the board in the 59th minute, but the sophomore was denied a shot by the Coastal defense.
  • Brandon Eaton fired a shot in the 83rd minute, but was just wide. The senior was on line again two minutes later, but the Chanticleers keeper was there again to stop the Rams from getting on the board.
  • With seconds remaining in the game, Luc Fatton blasted a shot, but the shot grazed the cross bar.

Quotable

  • "Tonight was very disappointing. After an incredible energy and team spirit on Friday, we weren't able to turn around with the same level of energy against a very good Coastal team tonight. To be fair, I'm not sure we were prepared to consistently break down a team like that at this point in the season, but we can't conceded two soft goals like that and expect to win against the types of teams we will be competing against." -- Head Coach Dave Giffard
  • "I think there were a lot of things for us to learn this weekend and as we talk about all the time, everything we need to learn is in the game. We just need to get back to work and get prepared for another challenging set of opponents next weekend." -- Head Coach Dave Giffard

Up Next

  • VCU will travel to the Golden State later this week for a pair of games. The Rams will kick off the road swing at No.16 California on Friday.
