Dwyer's Eight Scoreless IP, Offense's 16 Hits Lead Rams Past Bonnies 11-0

Box Score

The Basics

  • Score: VCU 11, St. Bonaventure 0
  • Records: VCU (32-22, 13-10 A10), St. Bonaventure (16-28-2, 3-20 A10)
  • Location: Fred Handler Park – Olean, N.Y.
  • The Short Story:  The Rams won their sixth straight game on Friday, an 11-0 win over St. Bonaventure. Heath Dwyer made his last career regular season start count, going eight scoreless innings with eight strikeouts. The offense collected 16 hits, making that 45 hits in its last three games. Vimael Machin's home run and three-hit days from Brett Hileman and Logan Farrar highlight the day at the plate for the Rams

How It Happened

  • The Rams have been hot at the plate lately and today was no exception. They grabbed an early lead for the second straight game in the series by scoring a couple of runs in the top of the third. James Bunn added another run in the top of the fourth on an RBI single.
  • Three more VCU runs came in to score in the top of the fifth with Brett Hileman, Jimmy Kerrigan, and Bunn all driving guys in.
  • In the top of the sixth Vimael Machin, who had hit the ball hard in two previous at-bats to no avail, tattooed a ball that sailed over the right field fence for his third home run of the season and put the Rams ahead 8-0.
  • Despite the offensive firepower VCU has shown in this series, the pitching has been just as impressive. Heath Dwyer gave the Rams eight shutout innings, striking out eight and walking none. VCU has not walked a batter so far this series.
  • Thomas Gill came in to throw a scoreless ninth inning to end an 11-0 victory for the Rams.

Up Next

  • VCU's final regular season game will take place tomorrow at 12 pm.
