- The Short Story: Offense was certainly not in short supply for the Rams in today's 12-2 victory over St. Bonaventure. Matt Davis led the way with five RBI including a big grand slam in the fifth inning. JoJo Howie went the distance for the Rams, his fifth career complete game and his first this season.
How It Happened
- VCU got it going early, scoring two runs in the top of the second on a bases loaded single by Logan Farrar.
- In the top of the fifth the Rams did some more damage with the bases loaded courtesy of Matt Davis; he took a pitch deep to left field for a grand slam, VCU's second of the season.
- The Rams kept the heat up in the top of the sixth, scoring six runs and giving themselves a 12-0 lead. The runs came in via four RBI singles and a two-run double by Vimael Machin.
- The Bonnies jumped on the sixth inning offensive bandwagon with an RBI single.
- Another St. Bonaventure run crossed the plate in the bottom of the eighth when Thad Johnson took the first pitch of the inning deep to left field for a home run.
- Aside from that little hiccup, starter JoJo Howie gave one of his best performances of the season to his team today. The senior tossed a complete game, allowing just the two runs while striking out seven with no walks on the way to a 12-2 win for VCU.
Quotable: "Great team effort today, it's good to get the first one. We got the big swing from Matt Davis that settled things down in the fifth inning and got everyone going. Great job by the middle of our lineup. And of course JoJo Howie with the complete game, our first of the year and it couldn't have come at a better time. We still have a lot of work to do, we have to come out here focused tomorrow. But a great job by the boys being ready to go today." -Head Coach Shawn Stiffler
