The Short Story: VCU women's hoops held an opponent to under 50 points for the ninth time this season as the Rams defeated NC A&T 64-49 to improve to 11-2 on Wednesday. Keira Robinson and Isis Thorpe had strong game for the Black and Gold
OPENING TIP
- Thorpe made five-of-seven shots, draining four three's, adding two at the foul line to lead the Rams with 16 points. The guard also grabbed six rebounds.
- Robinson drained three treys and scored 15 points while dishing out a team-high four assists. The junior picked up a steal and added a block.
- Jessica Ogunnorin grabbed eight rebounds to pace the Rams and Curteeona Brelove registered six.
- Melanie Royster picked up two blocks. Last season, Royster led the team with 64 blocks in 2014-15.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams were tied after the first quarter of play. The Aggies began the second with an 8-0 run to take a 24-16 advantage.
- Robinson ended the run with a three to spark VCU's offense.
- The Rams followed with seven more unanswered points to take a three-point lead into the break.
- VCU get their foot on the gas, starting the second half on an 8-0 run of their own to build a cushion.
- The Black and Gold has shut down opponents in the second half of games and did just that to Aggies, coming away with another double-digit victory.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Rams forced 14 A&T turnovers. The Rams have caused double-digit errors in every game this season and lead the A10 in turnovers forced, turnover margin, and steals.
- VCU scored 15 of their points off of Aggies mistakes.
- VCU outscored A&T in the paint 18-16 and the bench chipped in 21 points.
- The Rams limited the Aggies to just 14.3 percent (4-of-28) from beyond the arch in the game. Overall, A&T was held to just 30.0 percent (15-of-50) in the contest.
- The Rams advance to a perfect 4-0 all-time against the Aggies.
