OPENING VOLLEY
- Kalah Jones provided VCU with 13 kills, but it wasn't enough for the Rams to overcome Maryland-Eastern Shore Wednesday night at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
- Sophomore libero Rebekah Strange dug 22 balls for VCU, while senior Sami Blaze produced a career-high 15.
- Freshman Tori Baldwin continued her late-season charge for the Rams. The Durham, North Carolina middle was party to six blocks, including a pair of solos. She also spiked seven kills.
- Lucia Babic spurred the Hawks Wednesday with 14 kills, 16 digs and three blocks.
KEY MOMENTS
- A pair of Zuzana Ondruskova kills bookended a 5-0 UMES burst in the third set that helped turn an 18-all frame into a Hawks win.
- VCU was primed to send the match to a fifth-set tiebreaker when it raced out to a 13-9 lead in the fourth. But a short time later, UMES used a 4-0 burst to grab an 18-15 advantage it wouldn't relinquish. Babic provided five kills for the Hawks in the clincher.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- UMES snapped VCU's five-match win streak. The Rams had won seven of eight heading into Wednesday's contest.
- Baldwin has produced five or more blocks in six straight matches and seven of her last eight appearances. She has recorded five or more blocks in 12 matches this season.
- In three November matches, Strange is averaging 4.91 digs per set.
WHAT'S NEXT
- The Rams return to action on Saturday, Nov. 14 when they host Fordham at 1 p.m. at the Siegel Center. VCU will also hold its Senior Day festivities prior to Saturday's match. Jones, Blaze, Uzoamaka Ibeh and Kaitlyn LaMantia will be honored.
