OPENING VOLLEY
- Freshman Sahbria McLetchie recorded 19 kills as VCU rallied in the fifth set to stun league-leading Saint Louis and snap the Billikens' 15-match win streak Friday night.
- Senior outside hitter Kalah Jones provided 14 kills, 19 digs and five blocks. She also recorded the final two kills of the night to send the Rams to the winner's circle.
- Sophomore middle blocker Jane Feddersen was also splendid for VCU. The Leesburg, Virginia native spiked 15 kills and hit .423.
- The Rams hit .241 overall Friday behind the setting of redshirt freshman Indigo Thompson, who distributed 49 assists.
- Defensively, sophomore Rebekah Strange dug 24 balls for VCU.
- Saint Louis' Danielle Rygelski led all players with 23 kills.
KEY MOMENTS
- VCU fended off set point in the fifth before storming to victory. Rygelski's 23rd kill of the night pushed the Billikens to a 14-13 lead in the tiebreaker. But a Feddersen kill on the next play evened the score. She then served the final two points as Thompson found Jones for kills.
- The Rams came out swinging to storm to a 2-0 match lead. VCU's defense held Saint Louis to a .049 in the first. The second set was all offense as the Rams hit .607 on the way to a 25-23 win.
QUOTABLES
- "It was a great game. We just matched up well with them. I think we came out aggressive with our serving, and we were passing well. We were able to keep them off guard with our offense. They caught up to what we were doing in the third and fourth, though. The fifth was back and forth and we got some huge points at the end from Jane and Kalah."
- "This was a huge win for us so we can send a message and keep moving in the right direction. The girls' confidence is through the roof now, and that's important." -- VCU Coach Jody Rogers
