The Quick Recap: The VCU Men's Soccer team battled La Salle to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday night in conference action.

How It Happened:

  • La Salle's Joe Farrell took a shot early, but Pierre Gardan was there for his first save of the match. The Explorers had a couple more shots in the opening minutes, but none of them were able to find the back of the net.
  • Cody Sweatte had the first shot for the Rams in the 18th minute, but he missed just wide. Jorge Herranz looked for a chance to give VCU a lead, but he missed the net by mere inches.
  • After the break, the Explorers fired a shot, but their opportunity sailed over the cross bar.
  • Herranz fired again in the 53rd minute looking for the first goal of the game, but his chance was denied by the La Salle keeper.
  • With 15 minutes left in regulation, Dakota Barnathan's shot missed just wide.
  • Both teams looked for opportunities in the first overtime period, but nothing was falling for either team.
  • Herranz looked to end the game in the second overtime, but his shot was blocked by the La Salle defense. The Explorers responded with a shot in the 104th minute, but were unsuccessful, resulting in the match ending in a 0-0 draw.

Noteworthy:

  • This was the fourth game of the season that was decided in extra time. The Rams post a 0-1-3 in extra time. 
  • VCU has given up just two goals in the last 1,180 minutes of Atlantic 10 action; that is a goals against average of 0.15
