- The Short Story: Senior Cindy Chala (pictured, right), junior Salome Kvitashvili (pictured, main) and freshman Ludivine Burguiere each scored victories in doubles and singles action to lead the VCU women's tennis team to a 4-0 defeat of UMass and a second straight appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship match. Burguiere was a part of the clinching doubles victory and clinched the match with a win at #6 singles.
How It Happened
- Kvitashvili teamed with sophomore Yukako Noi to grab momentum in doubles action with an 8-4 win at the #2 spot. Chala and Burguiere partnered up and followed close behind to clinch the doubles point with an 8-4 win of their own and put VCU up 1-0.
- Kvitashvili opened up singles action and kept the Rams rolling with a quick 6-0, 6-1 win over Arielle Griffin at #4.
- Chala pushed it to 3-0 in favor of the Black & Gold with a 6-2, 6-2 win at #1 over UMass' Yuliana Motyl.
- Burguiere finished off the Minutemen with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jessica Podlofski at #6 singles.
