Rams Keep Rolling with 1-0 Victory Over St. Bonaventure

Box Score

The Basics

  • Score: VCU 1, St. Bonaventure 0
  • Records: VCU (6-7-4, 3-0-3 A-10), BON (1-12-0, 0-5-0 A-10)
  • The Short Story: A goal from junior defenseman Dennis Castillo was all that VCU needed in its 1-0 victory in a matinee match with St. Bonaventure.

How it Happened:

  • Castillo's goal, his second on the season came in the 14th minute to put the Rams up 1-0. Senior Mario Herrera Meraz launched a corner kick right to Castillo who easily headed it in from just a few yards out for his second goal of the season.
  • The Rams attempted 15 shots on the day, including seven that were on goal and a few more that were just high or wide. The Bonnies only mustered six shots total, none of which posed any sort of threat.
  • VCU's defensive unit in particular stood strong yet again, registering a fourth consecutive shutout in front of junior goalkeeper Garrett Cyprus.

Quotable:

  • "Today was another solid professional performance. Just like Friday night, we were able to grind and advance.  I know our guys are frustrated with not scoring the chances that we have created, but this time of year, teams that advance are the ones who defend well and can win 1-0. As long as we continue to create good chances and give very little away at the other end, we could be playing for awhile. "–Head coach Dave Giffard

Up Next:

  • VCU travels to George Washington and play the Colonials on Sunday, November 2 in an afternoon matchup beginning at 1 pm. VCU will then return home for its regular season finale on November 7 to play Saint Louis at 7 pm.
