Rams and Explorers End Sunday Matinee in a Tie, 0-0

Box Score

The Basics

  • Score: VCU 0, La Salle 0 2OT
  • Records: VCU (4-7-4, 1-0-3 A-10), LAS (4-7-2, 0-2-1 A-10)
  • The Short Story: For the second consecutive game the Rams played to a scoreless tie, this time against the La Salle Explorers.

How it Happened:

  • Senior Jose Manel had a great scoring chance early on for VCU, rocketing a shot towards a wide open net, but a La Salle defenseman made a great play to block Manel's shot.
  • Sophomore Brandon Eaton had the Rams' other great chance on the day, blasting a shot wide in the 107th minute after lots of activity in front of the net left him with an open shot on net.
  • VCU outshot La Salle on the day 19-7 and held Davidson to no shots on goal after halftime.
  • This was the third consecutive clean sheet for junior goalkeeper Garrett Cyprus and his fifth on the season.

Quotable

  • "I believe 100% that this game is honest. The ball may not bounce your way in the short term, but if you do things right, it will over the course of time. We are performing well, generating a ton of chances and giving very little away defensively.  But, at the moment, the ball doesn't seem to want to go in. If we continue to perform well and improve each week in training, it will only be a matter of time before it does however, and this team will be hardened and ready for the stretch run." - Head Coach Dave Giffard

Up Next:

  • The Rams will hit the road for three consecutive road games, the first of which comes Friday, October 24 against Duquesne. After road games against St. Bonaventure and George Washington, VCU will return home for its regular season finale on November 7 to play Saint Louis.
