The Short Story: The VCU Field Hockey team fell to top-ranked North Carolina 8-1 on Sunday afternoon in Chapel Hill. Senior Kendell Combs scored the lone goal for the Rams in the 54th minute. Goalkeeper Kendall Clifton recorded nine saves in the cage.

How It Happened

  • UNC's Nina Notman scored the first goal of the first half, and the Tarheels responded with six unanswered goals to take a 7-0 lead heading to the second half.
  • Junior goalkeeper Kendall Clifton registered eight saves in the first half.
  • In the 37th minute, Carolina's Notman scored third goal of the game to extend the Tarheels' lead to 8-0.
  • Off a penalty corner from Spencer Tossone, senior Kendell Combs put the Rams on the board in the 54th minute. That was the senior's third goal of the weekend.
