- The Short Story: The newcomers for the VCU women's tennis team led the Rams to a hard-fought, gritty 4-3 win over ACC foe, Maryland, on Friday afternoon. The newcomers stepped up with three singles victories and part of one doubles victory to pace the Black & Gold.
How It Happened:
- Junior Olga Terteac and sophomore Salome Kvitashvili helped the Rams set the tone early with an 8-2 win at the third doubles spot. Junior Daria Yakauelva and newcomer Olga Barscheuskaya followed right behind with an 8-4 win of their own to earn the doubles point.
- Sophomore Cindy Chala quickly moved that to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 decision at the top singles spot.
- Fellow newcomer Yukako Noi followed close behind with a 6-2, 6-1 win at #4 singles.
- Maryland picked up wins at #2 and #3, but a hard-fought, gutty performance by freshman Olga Barscheuskaya sealed the win for the Rams.
