ORLANDO, Fla. – Women's soccer in the Colonial Athletic
Association is a dogfight each and every night and the Virginia
Commonwealth University women's soccer program knows that well.
In a couple weeks when the Rams enter CAA play, they will be
battle tested as they played their third high-caliber opponent of
the year in Central Florida on Sunday afternoon, this time falling
to the Golden Knights, 4-1.
"We knew coming in UCF was a very talented team and would really
challenge us," Co-Head Coach Tiffany Roberts
Sahaydak said. "The positive is that our girls have seen
elite level competition so far this year and we know what we have
to do get to that level."
Sophomore Bre White (Manassas, Va.) continued
her impressive transition to the forward position as she picked up
a turnover deep in UCF territory and blasted in her third goal of
the year just 2:35 into the game to give the Black & Gold a 1-0
lead.
"It was great to see our girls jump out with a sense of urgency
against such a good team," Roberts Sahaydak said. "We'll just
continue to work on keeping that sense of urgency and
aggressiveness for 90 minutes."
The Golden Knights would control the temp the rest of the way
scoring goals in the 20th and 43rd minute to
take a 2-1 lead into halftime and eventually adding goals in the
77th and 86th minute to put away the 4-1
win.
"We've played three NCAA tournament caliber teams and that's
exactly what we wanted to do with this team," Roberts Sahaydak
said. "We know how much of a dogfight the CAA is and in order to be
in the top four we're going to have to bring our best every Friday
and Sunday."
The Rams return home for the first time in the past three weeks
when the Flames of Liberty University in a 7 p.m. contest on
Friday, Sept. 10th at VCU's Sports Backers Stadium.
