Box Score RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth
University remained red hot at the plate, ripping 20 hits in a 20-3
rout of Quinnipiac Wednesday at The Diamond.
The Rams have won five straight to improve to 8-3
on the year. VCU has scored at least 10 runs in four of those five
victories. Quinnipiac is 0-6.
Junior John Lenherr (Windham,
Kansas) drove in five runs to pace the VCU attack. The
Rams also got a two-run home run from sophomore Paul Nice
(Powhatan, Va.) in the third inning, his first of the
year, while sophomore Taylor Perkins (Dinwiddie,
Va.) was 3-for-5 with three RBI.
Freshman right-hander Kyle Haynes
(Stafford, Va.) picked up his first career win, tossing
six innings of three-hit, shutout ball. He struck out seven and
walked four.
The Rams scored early and often, plating two in
the first and three in the second, third and fourth, to march to an
11-0 lead.
Lenherr got the Black and Gold on the board in
the first, rapping a timely single with two outs. The junior lefty
proved clutch again in the fourth, when he brought home a pair with
another two-out single. Lenherr also drove in a Ram with a sac fly
in the sixth.
VCU returns to action Friday, March 12 when
it meets Bethune-Cookman at 6 p.m. in Daytona Beach, Fla.
