Former Saint Joseph's and Delaware star Ryan Daly joined the VCU Basketball staff as an assistant coach in April of 2025.

Prior to donning the Black and Gold, Daly spent the 2024-25 season as an assistant coach for now-VCU Head Coach Phil Martelli Jr. at Bryant, where he helped lift to the Bulldogs to 23 wins and an America East Championship. During his lone season in Smithfield, R.I., Daly helped develop 2025 America East Player of the Year Earl Timberlake, as well as league Newcomer of the Year Barry Evans.

From 2022-24, Daly served as an assistant coach at UAlbany, where he helped engineer one of the nation's top offenses. In 2023-24, the Great Danes averaged 78.7 points per game.

Daly's basketball history has long been intertwined with the Martelli family. After starting his collegiate career at Delaware, Daly was recruited to Saint Joseph's by Phil Martelli Sr. but never played for the legendary head coach. Daly is also the grandson of Jim Boyle, who was head coach at Saint Joseph's from 1981-90 and hired Martelli Sr. as an assistant coach. Daly's father, Brian, played for Martelli Sr. at Saint Joseph's and later coached at Boston U and Penn State.

Daly was nominated as Silver Waves Media Top 100 rising stars Mid Major Assistant Coaches in 2023 and helped recruit/develop Sebastian Thomas and Amar’e Marshall into All-Conference players at UAlbany.

As a player, Daly played two seasons at Delaware, earning CAA Rookie of the Year honors in 2016-17. He later became the fastest player in Delaware history to score 1,000 points. After transferring to Saint Joseph's he went on to become just the fourth Hawk since 1947 to average 20+ points in a career, finishing at 20.1 points per game. Daly ranked 21st nationally in scoring in 19-20 and led the Big 5 in scoring in both seasons.
