
Robby Robinson has been affiliated with VCU Athletics since 2008 and currently serves as VCU Sports Properties Director of Business Development.
Prior to joining the school’s multi-media partner, LEARFIELD, in 2015, Robinson was VCU’s Senior Associate Athletic Director of External Affairs and has been the voice of VCU's Men's Basketball since the 2008-09 season.
Robinson manages many of the corporate partnerships within the athletic department which involves aligning area brand’s marketing and advertising strategies with promotional inventory within VCU Athletics. He is the lead contact with many of VCU's major sponsorship partners including VCU Health, Virginia Credit Union, Synergy Technical and Woodfin.
In addition to his sales and administrative roles, Robinson also handles the play by play duties of VCU Men’s Basketball. He works in concert with VCU radio partner 910 The Fan & Big 98.5. Since his arrival in 2008, he has called nineteen NCAA Tournament men’s basketball games and four VCU conference tournament championships and was part of the broadcast team that called the Rams thrilling 2011 Final Four run.
Before coming to VCU, Robinson spent eight years as the basketball and football play-by-play voice of The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. Robinson also served as the general sales manager for Kirkman Broadcasting. During his tenure, Robinson won four Advertising ADDY awards for commercial production, as well as an Edward R. Murrow Award for a radio feature on Marc Buoniconti.
Robinson is a 1997 graduate of the University of Virginia, where he majored in history. He was also a four-year member of the Cavaliers’ baseball team and played on the school’s first ACC Tournament Championship team in 1996. In 2014 he became a member of the VCU Alumni family, earning a Master's of Education Degree from VCU's Center for Sport Leadership.
Originally of Atlanta, Ga., Robinson lives in the near west end with his wife Chara, their son Riley and daughter Lucy.
