Alex Williams joined the VCU Sports Medicine staff in January of 2022 and oversees the daily healthcare for the Field Hockey Team. Those duties include daily injury and illness management, evaluations, treatments, rehabilitation protocols, corrective exercises, recovery strategies, referrals and post-operative care. Williams also works closely with closely with the coaching staff and strength and conditioning coach to track injuries and identify any trends that arise during the fall and spring seasons.

Williams was also responsible for the sports medicine needs of the Men’s golf team from 2022 to July 2024. In his time he saw one A10 Championship and Regional berth in 2024 as well as working closely with 2022 A10 Individual Champion Adrian Vagberg as he came back from injury.

Prior to his time at VCU, Williams was the Associate Athletic Trainer at Chantilly High school from August 2020 to January 2022.

Williams earned a Bachelor’s in Exercise Science (’17) and Master’s in Athletic Training (’20). During his Master’s program, Williams gained experiences at Westfield High School (VA), Shenandoah University (Men’s Lacrosse), and the Washington Commanders.

Williams is currently licensed in the State of Virginia and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA). He is certified in Functional Moment Screen (FMS), certified in Graston Level 1,  certified professional rescuer (CPR/AED) for health care providers, certified in Structure and function and Dry Needling Level 1.
