The short story: Senior middle blocker Jasmin Sneed erupted for 14 kills and eight blocks and VCU rallied past Dayton Sunday to clinch its third straight Atlantic 10 Conference regular season title.

OPENING VOLLEY

  • Sneed hit .619 in the match for the Rams
  • VCU also received nine kills and 10 blocks from senior opposite Gina Tuzzolo, as well as 15 kills from senior outside hitter Vicky Giommarini
  • Senior middle blocker Jaelyn Jackson added nine kills and eight blocks for the Rams
  • On the back row, senior libero Madalon Simpson supplied 22 digs
  • Jamie Peterson led all players with 26 kills for Dayton

THE DIFFERENCE

  • VCU got three blocks and a kill from Tuzzolo, and held the Flyers to a .040 hitting percentage in the fifth set tiebreaker
  • The Rams outblocked the Flyers 16-8
  • VCU pushed ahead 10-6 in the fifth with a 5-1 burst that saw Sneed spike a kill, as well as combine with Tuzzolo on a double block. Dayton would pull within 10-9, only to watch the Rams score the next three points, punctuated by another Sneed/Tuzzolo block, to take a 13-9 advantage. Moments later, Tuzzolo and Jackson blocked Dayton's Sierra Pla to clinch the 15-11 win
  • VCU fell behind 2-1 in the match, but the Rams held Dayton to a .125 hitting percentage the rest of the way

NOTABLE

  • VCU has won three straight A-10 regular season titles, as well as the league tournament crown in 2017
  • VCU wrapped up A-10 play with a perfect 14-0 mark for the second time in three years. The Rams finished 13-1 last season
  • The Rams have won 17 straight matches overall
  • VCU is 44-2 against A-10 competition the past three seasons
