IN SEARCH OF ANOTHER TITLE, VCU PICKED SECOND IN A-10 POLL

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU has dominated Atlantic 10 Conference play the past two seasons, and league coaches expect the Rams to be a tough out again in 2019. VCU, the two-time defending A-10 regular season champs, was selected second in the league's annual preseason coaches poll, released Tuesday.

VCU garnered 92 points and two first-place votes in the poll, and trailed only 2018 A-10 Tournament champ Dayton (98). The Flyers received eight first place votes. Saint Louis (71), La Salle (62) and George Washington (54) rounded out the top five.

The Rams return five starters in 2019, including AVCA All-East Region and honorable mention All-America selection Jasmin Sneed (San Antonio, Texas). Sneed ranked fourth nationally in blocks per set (1.70) in 2018.

VCU will also welcome back a pair of All-Atlantic 10 Second Team honorees from last year in outside hitter Vicky Giommarini (Rome, Italy) and opposite Gina Tuzzolo (Newport News, Va.).

Led by seventh-year Head Coach Jody Rogers, VCU was 13-1 in A-10 regular season action last year, and the Rams are 30-2 against league competition the past two seasons.

VCU kicks off its 2019 season on Friday, Aug. 30 at the Sports Imports Classic, hosted by Ohio State.
