MILWAUKEE, Wis. – VCU Women's Tennis traveled to Milwaukee, Wis. to participate in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic this past weekend.
The weekend was highlighted by Paola Exposito Diaz-Delgado going 2-1 in the singles flight, defeating Kayla Wilkins of Arizona (6-3, 6-3) and Maja Pietrowicz of Michigan State (6-2, 6-3). The junior was just recognized in the ITA Preseason National Rankings following a historic sophomore season and quickly lived up to those high expectations.
Luminita Tutunaru joined Diaz-Delgado in the tournament, going 1-1 with a victory over Laura Rico (MI-OH). The new duo took the court in the doubles flight, but dropped their opening round match 8-6 to Bryne/McColgan (NU).
Two VCU athletes participated in this well-known tournament which saw hundreds of universities represented. The Rams' fall season continues next weekend as some will travel to the Oracle Masters in Malibu, Calif. while others compete in the William and Mary Invitational.
