RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Women's Tennis junior Paola Exposito Diaz-Delgado was recognized in the Oracle Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason singles rankings, as announced by the association Tuesday.
The Almeria, Spain native is coming off a historic sophomore campaign in which she finished with the second most singles wins (38) in single-season school history. Diaz-Delgado guided VCU to back-to-back Atlantic 10 championships and garnered the A-10 Most Outstanding Performer award.
In the first round of the NCAA team tournament, Diaz-Delgado remained poised and defeated #10 Anna Rogers of N.C. State. This sparked a run to the Round of 16 of the NCAA singles tournament where she saw her season come to an end against eventual national champion Estela Perez-Somarriba (Miami) in a third set tiebreaker. Following the tournament, the NCAA recognized Diaz-Delgado as an ITA First Team All-American for her performance on the court.
The junior will look to build upon her success from last year as she prepares throughout the fall for the spring season. The team will be back in action as they travel to the Milwaukee Tennis Classic in Milwaukee, Wisc. this weekend.
