WOMEN'S TENNIS EARNS ITA ACADEMIC HONORS

Richmond, Va. – The VCU Women's Tennis team found more success this season, this time on the academic front.

The reigning Atlantic 10 Conference Champions were honored this week as an ITA All-Academic Team, a designation reserved for squads that post a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 and above (on a 4.00 scale).

In addition to their team honor, four players earned individual honors. Sophomores Paola Exposito Diaz-Delgado (Almeria, Spain), Sofia Sualehe (Lisbon, Portugal), Kanako Yano (Chiba, Japan), and junior Noumea Witmus (The Hague, Netherlands) were all named ITA Scholar-Athletes for their academic excellence. Sualehe was also named a Scholar Athlete in 2018.

In order to receive an ITA Scholar-Athlete award, a player must be a letter winner, achieve a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have been enrolled at their school for a minimum of two semesters.

The ITA awards cap off a 2018-2019 campaign which saw VCU finish 18-6 and win its sixth A-10 Championship in seven years.
