RICHMOND, Va. – After notching two goals in Sunday's match against Davidson, junior midfielder Maddi Santo has been named VCU's Virginia Lottery Student-Athlete of the week.

Santo's first goal came just after halftime, putting the Rams up by two. It was the first time she had found the net this season. Her second goal of the afternoon proved to be the game-winner as she buried it in the 76th minute, giving VCU the 3-2 victory.

The win leaves VCU at 1-0-1 in the Atlantic 10, and 5-2-2 overall. Santo attributed much of the team's success this season to the shape of the team, spreading out and finding space on the field. She attributes a lot of that to the back line, and how they have been able to get forward during games and make things happen.

"Our outside backs are getting forward and taking people on. That allows for runs to be made from forwards and center-midfielders."

Santo spent the summer training with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, a second-tier professional team.
