RICHMOND, Va. – Each year the goal for the VCU women's soccer program is to bring home the Colonial Athletic Association title and earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Returning all but one starter from a year ago, the Black & Gold are excited to begin their 2011 campaign. The season will start a little earlier than expected as an exhibition match against the reigning ACC Champions, Wake Forest, has been added to the schedule on August 14.  It takes the place of VCU's exhibition against Richmond, which was originally scheduled for Aug. 12.

"Our goal all year is to be playing in the NCAA Tournament and Wake is a team that is there almost every year," Co-Head Coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak said. "It's still early in the preseason, but we're definitely looking forward to the challenge that Wake will present to us."

Offensively, the Rams return their top three goal scorers with Azania, Bre White and Bex Kunz pacing the Black & Gold attack.

The staple of VCU over the years has been a stifling defense and that won't change this year with seniors Meghan Dullea and Molly Allen on the back line, along with junior Carly Edgcomb

Behind the defense is a highly competitive goalkeeper spot with Virginia Tech transfer Kristin Carden, returning starter from last year Megan Lynch and incoming freshman Amanda Sears.

The biggest strength of this year's team? Depth. For the first time during their tenure, the Sahaydaks will have 30 players on the roster, something the duo is really looking forward to.

"Having depth is a huge advantage because it provides a really competitive environment at practice on a daily basis," Roberts Sahaydak said. "We're excited to get started and look to make a run in what I'm sure will be an extremely hard-fought CAA race."

Game time for the Wake Forest exhibition is set for 12 p.m. at VCU's Sports Backers Stadium.
