Kevin Maureen Campbell joined the VCU coaching staff as an assistant coach in March of 2020 following four seasons with N.C. State, including two as associate head coach. She will also serve as the program’s recruiting coordinator.
With the Wolfpack, Campbell coordinated the team’s defense and worked with the liberos, in addition to her responsibilities as recruiting coordinator and academics liaison. She began her stay at N.C. State as an assistant coach before receiving a promotion to associate head coach in the spring of 2017.
In all four of her seasons at N.C. State, the team ranked top-five in the ACC in digs per set. The Wolfpack recorded a program-record 15 ACC victories in 2017, headlined by a perfect 10-0 mark in conference home matches for the first time in school history. Primarily responsible for the Wolfpack’s defense, Campbell helped the squad break the rally-scoring era program record with 106 digs in a five-set match at Notre Dame that season as well.
That 2017 club also earned the program’s first NCAA berth since 2012, and the Wolfpack secured their first win in the Big Dance in school history with a 3-2 victory over Oregon State.
The 2018 season saw NC State finish second in the ACC in digs per set and the team led the conference with 1,818 total digs after the 2019 regular season concluded. Under Campbell's guidance, first-year libero Kaylee Frazier ranked second in the ACC with 4.28 digs per set and set multiple program records, including a rally-scoring record 38 digs against Duke.
Prior to N.C. State, Campbell completed a two-year stint as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at San Diego State where she worked with the Aztecs' middle blockers and defensive systems while also overseeing all recruiting efforts. Under her direction, SDSU had two players claim all-conference honors in 2015.
Before that, Campbell was an assistant coach at Colorado during the 2013 season. She helped the Buffaloes reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006 and achieve their highest finish since that same year, after winning a first-round matchup. Campbell helped Colorado garner an all-region performer, as well as two all-conference players.
From 2007-2011, the Omaha, Neb., native served as head coach at North Florida, where she led that program’s transition from Division II to Division I. Campbell led the Ospreys to the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament in 2010 and 2011, the first two seasons in which they were eligible.
Additionally, Campbell has assistant coaching experience at Georgia, Ohio, Winthrop and perennial powerhouse Penn State. The Nittany Lions won the Big Ten in both her seasons with the program (2005 and 2006), advancing to the regional finals (Elite Eight) in 2006 and regional semifinals (Sweet 16) in 2005.
In her two seasons at University Park, she served as recruiting coordinator, oversaw match preparation and opponent scouting. Penn State compiled a 31-3 record and 32-3 record in 2005 and 2006, respectively. Campbell assisted in the recruitment of Megan Hoge, a 2012 Olympian and 2009 AVCA National Player of the Year.
Campbell was an assistant coach at Charlotte for five seasons as well. While in Charlotte, she founded the Charlotte Elite Volleyball Club and was responsible for all aspects of the organization. She also worked as a coach, instructor and recruiting specialist for Bring It USA, a team of recent college graduates who are looking to play professionally in the European League.
Campbell recorded more than 1,000 career kills as an outside hitter at Nebraska-Omaha where she earned all-conference twice and all-region honors, in addition to an academic all-conference accolade. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in history from UNO in 1995 and later earned a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Sport Administration from North Florida.
