Jake Sidwell is entering his first season as a graduate manager for the VCU baseball team, attending VCU's Center of Sports Leadership in 2017.
Sidwell is quite familiar with A-10 baseball, as he played for Davidson from 2014-17. Sidwell was apart of Davidson's Super Regional team in 2017, beating first-seeded VCU twice in the A-10 quarterfinals, and winning the North Carolina Regional with a pair of wins over North Carolina and a win over Florida Gulf Coast to advance to the Supers at Texas A&M.
Sidwell was drafted in the 39th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2013, and became the first drafted player ever to attend Davidson. In 2016, he started 48 out of the 52 games he appeared in at designated hitter and catcher. He finished the season with a .309 batting average, 54 hits, 34 runs scored, six doubles, one home run and 23 RBI in 175 at-bats. His batting average was second on the team, and he also posted a .360 slugging percentage and a .410 on base percentage. He also notched 39 starts at catcher in 2015, where he posted a .984 fielding percentage behind the plate and recorded 21 hits, 21 runs scored, and six RBI on 109 at-bats.
Sidwell was a three-year letter winner at Olympia High School in Windermere, Florida. He has two younger siblings, Kirk and Marissa, and is the son of Rob and Molly Sidwell. His father played baseball at Flagler College and coached at the University of Central Florida.
